How to fix Accessibility Issues: Overuse of italics

Text in italics is generally more difficult to read. It can be especially problematic for people with dyslexia.

The intention is usually to emphasise a message — but if used excessively, it becomes harder for people to recognise the words.

Text with overuse of italics may look like this:

If you wish to italicise make sure it is used to emphasise a word. For example, ‘The assessment was made before the interviews’. However, if you overuse italics in this context, they lose their power and can be distracting to the reader. It is better to avoid using italics for emphasis in formal writing.

To fix this un italicise the words that are not necessary.
